Bear Totem Quilt |
I travelled to the beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia last fall. One day included a fun trip to Port Alberny. My forays into parts unknown usually include a cafe latte at some coffee shop, a stop at a wool shop, and a venture into a fabric store. Unfortunately, the local wool shop had closed but I did manage to find a great cup of coffee and an even greater quilting store to stop in.
At least I think the quilting store was great. I must admit that I didn't make it much past the front door. Right in front of me was the most gorgeous fabric: totem poles in black, red, white and blue; bear paw prints; blue fabric the colour of clean water and; black bears with their totems tossed on cream fabric. I made it the two feet into the store so I could buy about 3 metres of each of these fabrics. I had no idea what I would make with all this cotton, but I had to make something: it was just too beautiful to not take home!

With some help from a book called '9-Patch Pizzazz' by Judy Sisneros, I pieced this quilt. I need to get it quilted yet but thought I would post photos immediately. (They do not do the quilt any justice.) It will be machine quilted in an appropriate design, probably using black thread.
This 51" x 62" lap quilt is made from 100% cotton and is for sale for $320.00
